This month I had my 50th birthday. I’ve been excited about it. I’m ready. Are you excited about the next year of your life? I’ve heard it said that most people over-estimate what they can do in a year and under-estimate what they can accomplish in three years. I love stuff like that. I’ve made my list. My goal is to prove the first part of that statement wrong. I have a lot that I want to do with my year.
Let me ask you this. Do you have anything written down anywhere that lists goals or dreams or plans you want to accomplish in your life? If yes, great! Where is it? Have you read it lately? If no, why not? How do you feel when someone asks you, “What do you want?” Oh my goodness, this question used to get the emotions rolling with me. Not anymore. “Hope is a thing with feathers that perches in the soul – and sings the tunes without the words – and never stops at all.” Emily Dickinson
Listen to your truth. You know, that voice inside you that knows exactly what makes you happy. Truly happy. I’m not talking about the I’m escaping responsibility kind of happy. We all have bills to pay. We all have 24 hours in a day. I understand that we all have responsibilities that may not be the source of your inner joy. Don’t settle into the world’s schedule. Take control of the choices you make. Indecision is the devil.
If you are in debt, doing a job that makes you hate Mondays and crave happy hour on Fridays, you need to stop and ask yourself, “How did I get here?” Did you choose your life or did you allow someone else to steer your boat? If I said This is YOUR year! What are you going to do with it? What would your answer be?
Let me know where you want to go and I will help you map the best route for you to get there. You might like the speed of the freeway or perhaps, you’d rather take the scenic route. Either way is better than not packing light and getting started.
How did I get here? I chose to be here and I’m so happy where I am at and excited to be headed on a new journey to my best self!
